Reflections on "The Hunt" by Ed Chamberlain
The Hunt for Redfish may represent the pinnacle of Club trips. Everything essential is present for an outstanding adventure, a worthy cause, high adventure (small craft warnings last year with a number of our members afloat in kayaks), copious quantities of fish (usually), trout, reds, tarpon, mullet on a fly (with photo) plus-plus, great camaraderie and fish tales over excellent meals, and the excitement of the drawings for great boodle generously donated by numerous sponsors.
All the above tied to the tremendous hospitality of Doug and Frank Brady and their condo neighbors furnishing superb accommodations and the “light” meals. Scenery is great and there is the added benefit of “change-up” surf fishing for those wanting a break from the Lagoon and Wading Luc’s infamous flats slogs for Reds. A must do adventure (at least once) for the physically fit and masochistic of the group, but with the option of fishing with some of Florida’s top captains if a more relaxed venue is more your style. Luc and Dalen as well as the professional captains of the area are wonderful guides and a day on the water with them is unparalleled in adventure, excitement, and the serene beauty of the Space Coast. You will see manatees (especially if you opt for the kayak expeditions) dolphin chasing mullet in 2-3 feet of water, experience fish bumping into your legs or kayak as they flee the shallows after you hook one of their compadres, and glorious sunrises and sunsets.
I can’t say enough positive things about the experiences of The Hunt. You will enjoy a great outing in beautiful surroundings and experience camaraderie unequaled on most adventures. You owe it to yourself and the Alzheimer’s Association to participate in one of these great adventures. Try it, you’ll like it.
